Shoot through umbrella vs Bounce umbrella Photography example

Here I show you the difference in look and light dispersion you get from either doing a shooting into an umbrella (bouncing it) or shooting through an umbrella.

The shooting into the umbrella (bouncing) give a much more directional looking light and less is splashed around the room,

shooting through the umbrella  causes a lot more light to fly around the room and less on the actual model or subject.  however one cool thing you can do is with a shoot through and an sb900 flash is you can zoom it in and you can actively make a vignette look to a photo yet still have soft light on the subject.
