What was I trying to do in this video i hear you ask?
Details and video after the jump…
Right this video is shot at the start with the canon 550D also known as the T2i. The video is being shot with the canon 17-85mm lens which is an f4- f5.6 lens. 17mm is nice and wide and is wider than my nikon 20mm ais f2.8 lens. But what i am wanting to show you is 2 things, Firstly is that the lighting or exposure difference you get by going from an f4 to an f2.8. secondly it is to show you the difference of having a cropped sensor and a full frame sensor.
canons cropped sensors are 1.6x crop while nikon's are 1.5x so the photo shows you the 20mm on a full frame sensor'd camera the canon 5D and then the video is with it on the Canon 550D which is cropped. its amazing how wide the 20mm is when on a full frame camera.
Tip to note to everyone if you are buying into canon you have to know that if you buy any Cropped sensor only lenses they will not attach to full frame body canons such as the 5d or 5d mark 2 which is a real bitch if you have invested in a lot of lenses and a bunch of them you suddenly find our are only for the smaller sensor cameras!
That is where Nikon was a smarty pants by making sure that all its cropped sensor lens (DX) could also work on the full frame sensor cameras (when i say work i mean fit on and have autofocus etc but you get a big black ring round the outside of the image where the cropped sensor lenses stop giving light. but that is easily cropped out or in the case of the current full frame dslrs from nikon it can automatically crop in camera and give a smaller pixel image, and an effective 1.5x zoom. Neat ay!
Righty time for the video me thinks.
enjoy

20mm 2.8 on full frame vs 17mm f4 on cropped sensor
The second shot was with the 17mm on the crop sensor camera, which is wide enough for the video on the Canon 550D but really shows you how wide a 20mm lens can be when it is on its native format of sensor size, full format!
This photo here is a shot of my Neece, nice, neice, niece…… brothers daughter taken with the nikon 20mm f2.8 on the Full frame Canon 5D
Vignetting is definitly a problem when you go full frame but it looks cool, I think.
